Time Flies When You're Loving A Little Man

If someone told me that the first three weeks of my son's life were going to go by this fast, I would have thought, "Yeah, ok." But no seriously. . . Three weeks already?!

Well I have good news and I have bad news.

Bad news. . . my computer is acting funny, even though it is a mac that my husband swears by. (I love you sweetie!) Because of this, I couldn't download even half of the pictures that we've taken of Sawyer and I have no three week, big boy picture of him to post. However,

Good news. . . being a mom is the most fabulous thing in the world and I am loving every day, no minute, no second, with this sweet little spirit!
Even at midnight, and 2AM, and 4AM, and 6AM. I'm sure you get it. Lance got up one night to take a picture of me looking like a very tired mommy. Is that even what I look like? Hopefully it's the sleep deprivation! :)

But how can't you enjoy motherhood when he looks like that?

And when he looks that tiny in his crib?

How he waits for his bath so patiently.

And how he snuggles his daddy right after to get dry and warm.

How he always has something to say. . .

But he thinks before he speaks.

When he makes those funny faces. . .

And then realizes what a drama king he was being. Is somebody feeling sheepish? :)

When he looks at you with those pure, loving eyes.

How he never gets tired of snuggling.

(Neither does his mommy)

And how he looks like a beautiful angel when he sleeps.

But most of all . . .

How he loves his Daddy

And how he loves his Mommy

What a gift I've been given. My new "job" is the greatest!

Welcome to the Woods Sawyer Lance!!

Sawyer Lance Wood
Born: September 3, 2009
2:29 PM
8lbs. 5oz. 21 in.

Background: While at the beach with my Dad and Deb in August, we got an email from a birthmother who really wanted us to adopt her baby. She didn't know the sex but she was over 37 weeks along. She said that she would call us when she went into labor. We went home and I packed a bag for us and one for baby, ready to leave the house at any moment.
We tried not to get too excited, telling only family, and reminding ourselves that Heavenly Father always knows what's best for us.

Well, Thursday, September 3rd came along and I got a phone call from the birthmom's best friend at 10 AM saying that she was already dilated to a 9. I called Lance at work, called my Marm to come and get Tuya, and packed up the car so we could leave when Lance got home.
We figured that we were going to miss the birth, so we were pleasantly surprised to find out that we made it in time. Our beautiful son was born about 30 minutes after we arrived in the room. What a tender mercy of the Lord to allow us to be there for such an amazing experience. I was able to hold the birth mother's hand (until I saw blood and almost passed out) and hear the first cry of our sweet child. I was crying so many happy tears that there wasn't a dry eye in the room (even the doctor was tearing up). Oh man, I'm crying again just thinking about it! :)

Here are Lance and I holding our beautiful baby boy in the delivery room about two minutes after he was born. Right after he was cleaned up, the nurse asked the birthmother who the first person to hold him would be. She pointed at me and said, "his mom." It was one of the happiest moments of my life. The minute I held him, I knew that he had been worth the wait! We are so thankful to our Heavenly Father for this miraculous blessing!

We spent the rest of the day in the nursery.

Mommy and Sawyer . . .

Daddy and Sawyer . . .

Sadly, the hospital policy didn't allow us to stay the night with him, so we left at about midnight to find a hotel. I slept a total of three hours because I was so excited and anxious to see my little man again. I waited to wake up the cute new dad until 5:30 AM and we got ready and headed back to the hospital. We were so excited to feed him . . .

and guard his crib . . .

That evening Lance convinced me that one can only eat so much hospital cafeteria food (he would know) so we decided to eat at a place called the Bonefish Grill that was right beside the hospital. It was a dinner that my sweet husband and I will never forget.
p.s. Did I mention how much I love my hubby?

After getting about four hours of sleep that night, we headed back to the hospital early the next morning to take our baby home. We were so nervous and excited at the same time. We'd made it to a similar point before and we prayed and hoped beyond hope that this time would be different.

IT WAS!!

Here we are taking OUR SON home from the hospital!

We love you so much baby Sawyer!
