Quincy's Birth Story
(Written by Lance)

Am called her mom Thursday night at 3:30 A.M. to come out because she felt she had gone into labor. However, things seemed to slow down after that and into the morning.

We saw Dr. Shuman at Am’s appointment that morning. She said Am had dilated to 4 cm and that the baby was in +2 position. Dr. Shuman planned on having us come to the hospital for delivery/induction the following Monday if Am hadn’t delivered by that point. However, when Am had 12-15 contractions in 1 hour that afternoon, we followed Dr. Shuman’s directions to get to the hospital right away.

Despite meeting that “active labor” criteria, things slowed down again once we checked into the hospital and we were left with the decision of whether to stay and be induced or to go home and continue to wait.

We walked around and around the hallway that circles the labor and delivery unit for a little over an hour to try and get things to progress, but had no results. Am continued to get intense contractions, but they weren’t close enough together. After questioning the doctors, saying prayers, texting to ask Matt Wilson (who told us to “crack the sack,”) and a little more prayer, we finally decided to proceed with having them break Am’s water.

Although we didn’t have the best experience with the epidural last time (the doctor forgot to hook it up to the medicine), Am wanted to give it another try. This time it was effective at paralyzing her legs for about 7 hours (which she wasn’t a big fan of), but unfortunately it didn’t ease the pain of the contractions.

Thankfully, Am’s active labor was relatively brief, similar to her labor with Reuben, and about 2 hours after having her water broken at 11:39 P.M. (Nov. 8th), Quincy William Wood was born!

He was so small (5lb 14.5oz) compared to Sawyer and Reuben (8lb 5oz and 8lb 2oz respectively) that Amber was concerned something might be wrong. Nevertheless, the medical team reassured us that he was perfectly fine.

Am did great! She’s a real trooper with this whole labor thing. She breaths deep and calmly and collectively performs her difficult and miraculous role in this amazing process.

What a wonderful blessing! Welcome to the world our Dear Son, Quincy!

Now for the photos.

Before they broke my water...

Welcome to the world angel!

I did it!

Completely in love

So tiny and so perfect.

I could have snuggled him forever.

But they needed to weigh and clean him.

Daddy's turn

Meeting his big brothers the next day!

These three...

Reuben loved Baby Quincy,
but he loved the pudding even more I think.

They loved their presents from Quincy!

Family of FIVE!!!!!

He also got to meet...

Grandma and Grandpa Martin

Grandma and Grandpa Wertz

And Aunt Kristie and Uncle Brent

Love this girl

That night the hospital provided
an amazing dinner for Lance and I.

We enjoyed our time in the hospital
just Mom, Dad and Quincy.

But we were excited to get home
 to his awesome big brothers!

Getting ready to leave Sunday.
(The board is wrong)

Sooo tiny in his carseat!!

Riding to the car
(They made me use the wheelchair)

And a special thank you to my own angel mother
who drove out in the middle of the night to watch my boys,
stayed with them for the weekend,
and cleaned and cooked for us for an extra day
when we got home from the hospital.
I can't imagine doing this without you. I love you!

Nursery Success

November 3, 2013

This is what I was shocked to see when I looked
through nursery window today at church.
He's usually sucking his thumb and
twirling his hair while being held.

He's getting so big!

Fall Fun

November 1, 2013

We had a blast this fall!
October 18-20, 2013
Visit from the Johnsons!

On Saturday we went to Way Fruit Farm for pumpkin picking.
We had a tasty lunch there.
Reuben enjoyed his hot dog in a very original way.

"Are you laughing at me?"

Then the boys showed off their muscles
 at the Apple Slingshot.
There was a truck out in the field to aim at.

 Sawyer

Dad

And Uncle Scott

Reuben decided just to watch.

Then we went on the hayride.

I love every face in this photo so much!

Pumpkins pumpkins everywhere!

Reuben really loves pumpkins!

Like a lot!

My pumpkins in the pumpkins

Then we went home and carved our pumpkins.

That night ate dinner at a local mexican restaurant.

And went back to the house to eat Ashley's homemade
apple pie she brought and celebrated Scott's birthday!

After the kids went to bed we finished carving the pumpkins,
and watched Hocus Pocus while snacking on pumpkin seeds
we had baked from our pumpkins earlier that day.

The next morning we just hung out for a little while
before they had to get on the road.

Somebody snuck in their family photo.

We sure love these guys!
Come back and see us again soon!
