Lance and I have wanted to take our boys on a "family vacation"
for a long time. This weekend we finally did!
It was short, but really adventure-packed.
We left early Friday AM and drove to the Baltimore Aquarium.

Both boys loved the animals in the exhibits.
Then we watched "Animal Encounter" where we met a lizard.
Honestly, it was really lame, but Sawyer really liked it.
He kept trying to touch the lizard, of course.
Which you aren't supposed to do, of course. :)
And Reuben even watched intently from afar.

Sawyer was a little scared of Shark Alley.
But he thoroughly enjoyed wearing this...
All of us liked the Dolphin Encounter the best.
We liked it so much that we went to 2 shows.

Then we headed across the street to Chipotle for dinner.
Reuben was a huge fan!
He basically cleaned his plate!
Between a full stomach and a missed nap,
he fell asleep right when we got in the car.
But both boys got their second wind once we got to the hotel.
We stayed at an Embassy Suites just outside of Baltimore.
It was really nice, except for the fire alarm
that went off at 5:20AM and made us evacuate
and wait outside for about 45 minutes
until they discovered that a water pressure issue
had caused all of the fuss and let us go back in.
Luckily for us, the boys were exhausted enough
that they went back to sleep until a little after 8.
Then we got up, had breakfast, went swimming,
and then headed back to our room to get ready.
The boys and Lance showered and then I got in.
As I turned the water off on the shower,
I heard Lance yelling and Sawyer crying.
I barely had time to react until Sawyer
ran in the room and threw up in the toilet.
He was crying a lot and I looked at Lance and asked what happened.
He responded with, "He fell and I think he hit his head."
I'm thinking to myself, "You "think" he hit his head?"
when he explained that he had been putting his shoes on
in the other room when he heard a thump and silence,
shortly followed by Sawyer screaming in pain,
and when he got there, Sawyer was crying and holding his head.
The rest was really scary. He cried for over an hour
and kept trying to fall asleep. He wasn't interested in TV
or treats and threw up multiple times.
Did I mention that it was really scary?!
Lance was even freaked out which scared me even more.
So Lance called our good friend who is an ED doctor
who said that as long as Sawyer wasn't completely disoriented
there probably wasn't internal bleeding and the ED
would just tell us to watch him because they wouldn't
want to expose his little developing brain to radiation.
So we tried to keep him awake for about an hour
(That was a REALLY long and loud hour)
and then got in the car and let him pass out.
We met up with my college friend Geri and her family for lunch.
It was really fun to see her, but the visit was a little tainted by the fact that
Sawyer slept between Lance and I the entire time
only to wake up at the very end and vomit.
He seemed a little better after that though and even ate two bites
of Mac N Cheese before he pushed it away with disgust.
All in all, it was really great to see Geri, Seth, and their beautiful kiddos!
We got back in the car and the kiddos both slept all the way
to Lake Tobias, a wildlife park in Central PA.
Sawyer still wasn't feeling well and refused to walk,
which is REALLY weird and freaked me out a little bit more.
He started to fall asleep during the reptile show
and was still a little grumpy at the beginning of the safari ride.
But we all enjoyed the safari and all of the cool animals.
Sawyer started feeling a little better at the end and was excited
to feed all of the crazy big animals that come right up to the bus.
And he was feeling a lot better when we got to the petting zoo.
Reuben loved the petting zoo.
And Sawyer felt strong enough to roar like a lion
toward the end of our visit too.
Sawyer still wouldn't eat anything that night, but he drank
a lot of milk and didn't throw up anymore and by the next morning
he was back to his normal self, excited to tell everyone that he saw
about his concussion. How grateful we were
for the return of our crazy little man!!!
All in all it was a very memorable vacation.
